Charles Spearin - Exclaim's Best Records of 2009

RVCA advocate and founding Broken Social Scene member, Charles Spearin was recently awarded the honor of Best Records of 2009 by Exclaim!*'# Magazine for his release, The Happiness Project. The record is a collection of sounds in tandem with interviews with Charles's downtown Toronto neighbours who all speak on their ideas and thoughts on happiness. It is a truly touching and endearing record and as one review quite accurately put it... "It doesn't always take much to lose faith in humanity and its capacity for compassion and understanding. Likewise, it doesn't take much to renew that same faith.". Charles can also be seen sporting a handsome RVCA Spanky button up in the press photo for the Exclaim!*'# write up. The Happiness Project is being performed this weeked at the Enwave Theater in Toronto with Charles's other well known band Do Make Say Think. Click HERE for ticket info.

Broken Social Scene - Show of the Year!

If you weren't there then you've probably heard about it and probably know that you missed out BIG TIME! If you were there then you know how epic this show was. Over 6,000 Torontonians packed it in on the edge of Lake Ontario to see their hometown heroes and RVCA friends Broken Social Scene play what has already been touted by local music media as "one of the most significant Canadian concerts of the decade". The band played for nearly 3 hours and were joined on stage by friends Feist, Metric, the Stars, and Jason Collett playing all their classics as well as favourites from the previously mentioned bands. BSS frontman Kevin Drew was even overheard saying "...that was the best show we've ever played". The concert was also filmed my marquee Canadian filmmaker Bruce Macdonald for an upcoming feature film.

Click HERE to see BSS play the classic 'Anthems...' with guests Feist, Emily Haines (Metric), and Amy Millan (Stars). This was the highlight of the show.

RVCA x Toronto Fashion Week

On Thursday March 20th, in celebration of LG's Toronto Fashion Week, RVCA teamed up with local promoters the Jons put together a party/showcase to help launch the brand's new line. Strangelove on College St. W played host to the party which consisted of a live photoshoot and some ripping tunes courtesy of DJ Medley. Big thanks to the guys in Cut Copy for rolling out, as well as their current tourmates Matt & Kim. Also no Toronto party would be complete without the Broken Social Scene posse rolling through as well to cut up a rug. Big thanks to the Jons for help making it all happen and to Pat and Matt Vardy for all the great photos.
