etnies x Electronic Arts

etnies and Electronic Arts Inc. worked together to bring the etnies GvR skateboarding contest to the Skate 2 video game, and to create an etnies Skate 2 RVM shoe for real world skateboarding. Drawing inspiration from etnies skate heritage, the RVM features the classic etnies Rap styling with a slimmed down mid-top silhouette on a vulcanized outsole and a tonal Skate 2 logo on the outer heel. The RVM also features STI System G2 gel in the heel of the outsole to absorb shock and prevent heel bruises. The etnies RVM Skate 2 shoe will be available when the game hits stores in early 2009.

etnies reintroduces the RVL

In 1990, etnies debuted the Rap (seen up there on the right in black leather), designed specifically for skateboarding. Two years later, in Plan B's legendary video, Questionable, Sal Barbier helped put etnies on the map in the United States when he rocked both the all red and all blue suede Raps in his part. Shortly after, the Rap, etnies, Sal and Plan B all rose to serious skateboarding fame and skateboarders across the world were singing Del tha Funkee Homosapien. Around the same time, etnies became the first skateboarding footwear brand to advertise in both Big Brother magazine and 411 video magazine. the Rap, Sal, Ronnie Creager and a few others were featured in those ads.

In 1993, to meet the ever-evolving demands of skateboarders, seeing that they were cutting down their high top Raps, etnies released the Rap Low. Beloved and imitated by many, the Rap Low became one of the most staple skateboarding shoes of the early and mid '90s.

For 2009, etnies figured it was due time to bring the Rap back, for real, and evolve a little bit as well. Enter the Rap Vulc Low, (RVL) a mid (RVM) is on the way too. The RVL embodies the classic styling and design of the OG Rap. However, it's been updated for the demands and standards of modern day skateboarding and style. The RVL features a vulcanized construction for superior grip and board feel, System G2 heel gel for impact protection, STI Foam for comfort and protection, lower hidden lace loops and extra laces, padded tongue and collar, elastic tongue centering straps and more. The Ballots Are In

etnies Names Team Captains AND RIDERS in Fifth Annual GvR

Ryan Sheckler, Jereme Rogers and Andrew Reynolds Among Those Scheduled to Compete in Pro Skateboarding Event, Oct. 2 - 5

Lake Forest, Calif. (Sept. 4, 2008) – Right or left is a question on everyone’s minds these days, and it will have even greater meaning for the skateboarding world this Oct. 2, 2008 when etnies’ GvR competition pits the best pro Goofy foot and Regular foot skateboarders against each other to battle it out in the ultimate team competition.

After falling to the Regular squad last year, the Goofy team will be led by The Skateboard Mag’s editor-in-chief Dave Swift, as they look to pull ahead in the series. SLAP Magazine’s editor Mark Whiteley will be the Team Captain for the Regulars as they try to come out on top for the second year in a row. After four GvR Skate contests, the score is tied. Both the Goofy team and Regular team have two wins, making this year’s etnies GvR a rubber match and both teams are anxious to ride out with a victory. Riders including Ryan Sheckler, Jereme Rogers and Andrew Reynolds look to make GvR history by leading their team to victory.

etnies GvR will also feature a special live performance by Bad Religion, food, activities and a festival village in addition to the non-stop skateboarding action. etnies GvR is skateboarding’s only team-based competition where riders are separated by their stance, Goofy foot or Regular foot. GvR broke the mold of the traditional skateboarding contest and has set out to settle the debate over which stance is best. With the date set and team captains selected, GvR provides the world’s best riders the perfect forum to provide an answer….at least for another year.

FUEL TV will premiere the etnies GvR 2008 show on Friday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the Skate @ 8 block.

Etnies presents the 3rd Annual Canadian Concrete BMX Jam Series

As you can see above, Etnies is presenting the third annual Canadian Concrete BMX Jam series in the lower mainland of Vancouver BC. It’s an exciting area for BMX as we have dozens of concrete parks within a short drive of the downtown core, or any suburb for that matter. It’s the first ongoing jam series done in western Canada, and has been well received by not only the riders, but their families and supporters as well.

After the first 2 successful years, we’ve made a few changes this year. The biggest was making it free for all ams to participate. This, we believe, will encourage even greater rider attendance. The other was ensuring that all the parks we have the jams at are friendly for all skill levels and ages, making sure there are enough grind ledges and quarter pipes for the 13 and under to the “masters” to enjoy the day.

We welcome all riders and non-riders to come out to the parks and participate, cheer on the riders, or just take a look at bmx grass roots at its best!

June 22nd - Kirkstone Skate Park

July 30th - Richmond Skate Park

August 17th - Coquitlam Skate Park
