This Is My Life

Every now and then, I do a little camera photo upload of all of my cell phone photos and arrange them into contact sheets to send to the friends I was with that week/weekend. There is just something about impromptu high in interest and low in quality camera phone photos that hold it's own charm. That being said...there is finally a photography contest where you don't need nice gear to win.

RVCA x Color Mag Present "This Is My Life"
A cell phone photography contest

Take 12 photos of your day with your cell phone and create a 12 frame (one per hour) contact sheet. The most interesting day wins a clothing package from RVCA valued at $500. Second and third place wins a subscription to Color Magazine.

RVCA VASF Store Tour

VASF is the first in a number of RVCA retail flagships to open around the globe. Launched in September 2007, the store, situated on the iconic corner of Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco, combines art, music, fashion and popular culture, offering an ideal platform to illustrate PM Tenore’s vision for the brand. Acting as centre stage, VASF showcases the latest RVCA apparel collections as well as unique RVCA product collaborations with the likes of ANP Quarterly magazine, The Cobrasnake, Hamburger Eyes, Cinelli and Adam Wallacavage.
Complementing the RVCA product collection is an assortment of books, magazines, DVD’s, and music currated by RVCA Advocate’s Family. Showcasing the talents of RVCA’s ANP (Artist Network Program), VASF collaborates with ANP members on a wide variety of projects - Artist Josh Lazcano aka AMAZE executed a piece on the façade of the building prior to it’s opening while skateboarder come artist and ANP Quarterly editor Ed Templeton and ANP Artist Clare Rojas completed the window displays for the store’s opening.

The culmination of RVCA culture is the gallery space in VASF. The gallery is a special platform for ANP artists. Curating four key shows each year, VASF aims to become a new and exciting source of art culture for the local community, working alongside the ANP and local artists and personalities on special projects and events.

12 Questions with Deanna Templeton

1. What are your favorites things to do?

I love traveling with Ed. Shooting photos. Hanging out with my brother and his family. Looking at books and drinking tasty beverages. Exercise while listening to Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. Riding my bike to the beach.

2. How old is your cat?

Ptah will be 18 this December!

3. When did you start taking photos? What got you into taking photos?

Are starting taking photos twice. The first time was when I was 15, my friend Kim was a photographer and we would sneak into shows so she could shoot the bands and then she would develop and print them in our school photo lab. I would just stand than watching in awe as the paper would come alive with an image that she captured and so from that I decided I wanted to take photos myself. So under some weird circumstances my Mom got me a Canon T-90 which I used for about 3 years. Then I went on a trip to Guadalajara and naively packed my camera in my checked luggage. Someone from the airport thought they also wanted to be a photographer and took my camera to become one. So about 8-10 years passed when Ed gave me a Canon AE-1 for a Christmas present. That was the 2nd time I got into photographing. I now keep my cameras on my person when I travel.

That being said, I was very excited to stumble across RVCA's Raymold Molinar's Polaroid photo blog.. worth a peek, he has captured some some of the most surreal and ephemeral images that I have seen shot with a vintage SX-70.

RVCA supports/supporte Futur; a skateboard art show/une exposition artisitique de skateboard

This Friday in Quebec City, Transistor Design is presenting its 3rd skateboard art show called Futur at Le Cercle. The theme is based on the 4th dimension which is defined by light. To represent this, they went 40 years back before the the apparition of the photo camera using the photogram technology where the object is not being reproduced by print but by light exposure only. There you have the representation of a kick flip being decorticated almost under Xrays. It took many takes to come up with the final result since you can only see the results once you take out the paper out of the chemical solution. With a concept like that, imagine the creations from the artists who will put their ideas on a skateboard... Need more info, visit www.transistordesign.com
